I came across The Dark Academia Book Tag over at Anne With A Book and I decided I wanted to play along as I've got a weak spot for dark academia.
1. What is your favourite “academia” or “dark” book + movie?
Although it's a hyped book, I really enjoyed reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt. When it comes to movies, I have to answer The Dead Poets Society, as I saw it when I was a teen and got a weak spot for dark academia before it even became "a thing".
2. What dead poet would you like to have a drink with?
I think it would be interesting having a drink with either Edgar Allan Poe or Oscar Wilde.
3. What is your favourite painting and/or sculpture?
It's hard to choose one, but one of my favourite paintings is Vampire by Edvard Munch.
4. What is your favourite architectural marvel?
While it's hard to choose, I'd say the Taj Mahal looks rather awesome.
5. What Shakespeare play would you want to be the lead in?
With plays by Shakespeare, there's always the risk of ending up dead, but it would be cool with Macbeth though, if only for the "Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow" monologue.
6. How many languages do you speak and which language would you most like to learn?
Aside from English, I speak/understand Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish, as well as some German, and Spanish.
7. What is your favourite quote (from poetry, prose, plays, etc.)?
"The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame."
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
8. Which fictional character’s death is your ideal way to go?
Can I say none of them? If not, I'd love to get bitten by a vampire and turned into one myself.
9. What university/college would you most like to attend?
I'd love to attend Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. I visited it way back in 2008 and fell in love with the architecture. I think they have a bunch of interesting courses there, if I remember correctly.
10. What is your murder weapon or murder method of choice?
Not that I plan to murder anyone, but if done right, I think some sort of poison would be my option.
11. What mythology would you most like to apart of?
Norse, maybe? At least it's the one I'm the most familiar with, as I live in Norway.
12. If you had to do a PhD what would you choose to do it on?
Either gothic fiction or horror fiction.
13. Which fictional character would you die for?
I'd say Dracula - as he could turn me into a vampire and thus, I'd have plenty of time to read books.
Rapid-Fire: Pick One
1. Leather bound or cloth bound books
Cloth bound for me, as they're a bit more pleasing to the touch.
2. Dog-earing pages or highlighting pages
Highlighting pages for me, as I often did that back in my university days.
3. Sculptures or paintings
While I do appreciate sculptures, I'd say paintings for this one.
4. Piano or violin
Even though I love both, I'd say violin as they're easier to carry around and has a certain timbre to them that piano hasn't.
5. Films or theatre
I do love watching movies, but for this, I'd say theatre as it's an experience.
6. Poetry or prose
I love both, but for this, I'd say poetry as there's something about distilling an emotion or whatever into such few words.
7. Museums or bookshops
Museums, as they often have a gift shop, and guess what? One can often find books there. In other words, the best of both worlds.
8. Smell of books or smell of coffee/tea
I'd say coffee for this one, as there's something special about smelling coffee early in the morning.
9. Fountain pen or typewriter
For me, it'd be a fountain pen.
10. New or used books
There's a certain charm about used books and checking out secondhand bookstores that can't be found with new books.
