It's Friday, which means it's time for another Let's Talk Bookish post courtesy of Book Nook Bits and Dinipanda Reads and today's topic is women who shaped my reading life.
Here's the further prompts for today's discussion.
March is Women’s History Month and March 8 is also International Women’s Day. In honour of this month celebrating women, let’s talk about the women who’ve shaped our reading lives. Was there (or is there) a woman in your life who sparked your love for reading? Who was the first woman author you remember loving? Do you tend to read more books by women authors and do you think that’s for a reason?
My parents, especially my mother, really got me into books from a young age even before I could read myself as they often read out loud to me, especially before bedtime. Heck, my mother named me after the female protagonist of the Norwegian classic trilogy Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset, so I was in a sense "doomed" from the beginning to love books.
I remember enjoying books by Astrid Lindgren and Anne Cath. Vestly when I was a kid, but there's plenty of other authors I loved too. Now, I read a mix of authors, regardless of gender, as I tend to focus more on whether or not the book/plot sounds interesting, as there's no point in reading a book if I don't enjoy it.
