It's Friday, which means it's time for another Let's Talk Bookish post courtesy of Book Nook Bits and Dinipanda Reads, and today's discussion is about underrated reads.
Here's the further prompts for today's discussion.
What makes a book “underrated”? Did you read any books in 2025 that you think are underrated? Did you read any books with underrated tropes (or micro tropes) or genres? What are some of your favourite “underrated” reads from 2025 and of all time?
For me, an underrated book is one that's well written and of good quality, but is rarely talked about and gets overlooked in general. I often refer to this kind of books as "hidden gems". I honestly actually prefer reading underrated books over the hyped ones due to the huge variation in quality, and I read a few books last year that would fit the bill of underrated books.
A few underrated books I've read recently and could easily recommend includes Consequences of Love by Sulaiman Addonia, Jazz Owls by Margarita Engle, I'jaam by Sinan Antoon, Katherine by Anchee Min, and She's Midnight & Midnight Lace by Ann Marie Eleazer.
