January Hopefuls

As it's not only a new month, but also a new year, it's time to think about what to read. Here's some books I hope to read this month, and I'll mainly focus on translated fiction from a few Asian countries.

Silence by Shusaku Endo
After Tristan and the Classics mentioned it in one of his videos, I got a bit curious about Silence, so I figured out I wanted to read it sooner rather than later.

The Crab Cannery Ship by Takiji Kobayashi
The Crab Cannery Ship sounded a bit interesting and as it's written almost 100 years ago, I'm sure I could use it for the 2026 Classics Reading Challenge that I'm hosting.

Familiar Things by Hwang Sok-yong
The blurb on the back made me pick it up and I'm itching a bit to get into it, even if it's a bit of a heartbreaking read.

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie
Set during China's Cultural Revolution, it's in a sense a book about books, and of course as a book blogger, how could I resist really?

Days at the Torunka Café by Satoshhi Yagisawa
As I've read Yagisawa's books about the Morisaki Bookshop and enjoyed those, I was automatically drawn to Days at the Torunka Café, just to see if that one is as good as the others.

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
Pride & Prejudice is one of those classics I haven't read yet, so I wanted to change that. Fair enough, I already know the storyline thanks to the BBC version with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy, but it would still be nice to have said I've read that book.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Another one of those books that's been on my TBR for way too long, so I figured out I needed to kick myself in the arse and read this one too.
