Earlier this year, I read the novel The Dream of My Return by Horacio Castellanos Moya and today I'll post my review of the book.
Drinking way too much and breaking up with his wife, an exiled journalist in Mexico City dreams of returning home to El Salvador. But is it really a dream or a nightmare? When he decides to treat his liver pain with hypnosis, his few impulse-control mechanisms rapidly dissolve. Hair-brained schemes, half-mad arguments, unraveling murder plots, hysterical rants: everything escalates at a maniacal pace, especially the crazy humor.
Description from Goodreads
A high-octane paranoia deranges a writer and fuels a dangerous plan to return home to El Salvador.Drinking way too much and breaking up with his wife, an exiled journalist in Mexico City dreams of returning home to El Salvador. My Thoughts on the Book
I enjoyed reading The Dream of My Return, as one could feel the narrator's paranoia and anxiety at times, and the author allows the reader to explore some of the politcal struggles in El Salvador in a satirical way.
It's a thought-provoking book in a way, but sadly underrated, and because of that, it's worth reading, I think, as I wish more people disovered it.
